Community Connections Partner: Jubilee Women's Center

Jubilee Women’s Center is a Seattle-based nonprofit dedicated to providing safe and dignified transitional supportive housing for women coming out of various traumas, including homelessness. Since opening its doors in 1983, Jubilee has been a beacon of hope, recognized as the city’s pioneering transitional housing devoted exclusively to single women. 

Jubilee is committed to breaking the cycles of domestic violence, substance abuse and homelessness at their roots by focusing on self-determination and self-sufficiency. Each woman in the program receives a personalized care management plan, crafted to address her unique needs and aspirations. Through regular sessions with wellness support specialists and case managers, participants work towards meaningful goals such as securing employment, finding permanent housing and developing essential coping skills. 

Education and enrichment are integral to Jubilee’s holistic model. Its aim is to equip women with the skills and confidence to advocate for themselves and build stable and fulfilling futures. Additionally, the organization’s confidential computer lab, resource referrals and free clothing boutique stocked with quality donated items further support the community. 

“We so appreciate having the opportunity to offer free tickets to the symphony to our residents,” said Program Director Lisa Barnes. “In addition to imparting life skills like budgeting and time-management, and assisting with job searches, we also strongly encourage our program participants to engage with the community and practice self-care; enjoying a performance by the Seattle Symphony provides those benefits beautifully. Over the past year, one resident always jumps at the opportunity to attend a performance. I don’t think she’s missed a chance to go to the symphony since she’s been here!”  

 For four decades, Jubilee has proudly served the women of Seattle. Community collaboration with the Seattle Symphony allows Jubilee to provide life-changing experiences for those who may not otherwise have such opportunities, creating a profound impact on the lives of women in need. 

Jubilee Women’s Center is one of more than 70 partners in the Seattle Symphony’s Community Connections program, which provides complimentary tickets to nonprofit organizations across the Puget Sound region. 

Up Next: As part of our Community Connections program, we partner with local organizations to amplify the voices and stories of marginalized populations through music-making projects and performances. This spring, we are excited to re-launch our Lullaby Project with Mary’s Place. Initiated by Carnegie Hall, this project brings together Seattle Symphony musicians with clients of Mary’s Place to create lullabies for the latter’s young children. These songs, with support from Music Therapist Kristin Haglund and students of the Seattle Pacific University Music Therapy program, will be performed for the residents of Mary’s Place In The Regrade.
