Community Connections Partner: Mary's Place

Mary’s Place is a leading voice for homeless women, children and families in emergency situations, empowering families to reclaim their lives by offering community, acceptance, hope and dignity. The organization’s work keeps struggling families together and provides practical tools and resources that help them find housing and employment. Mary’s Place inspires the community to support homeless women, children and families through advocacy, partnerships, volunteerism and philanthropy.  

The Seattle Symphony is excited to announce the Spring 2024 return of its collaboration with Mary’s Place, the Lullaby Project! Over the course of a day, Seattle Symphony musicians connect with Mary’s Place families to write lyrics and a melody, creating lullabies for their children that are then arranged for the Symphony musicians to perform in a concert at a Mary’s Place shelter. A past Mary’s Place participant shared her thoughts: “I think that doing this project has helped with stability for both me and my son. Realizing that, here’s the situation that we’re in … but that’s okay. Because at least we’re together. And we have each other. And that’s what’s important. It’s helped me to focus on what it’s really about. It’s given me a focus, a goal to work toward. He’s my whole world right now. I can be stressed and pulling my hair out, and I just hear his cry, and I know that what I’m stressed about isn’t important. What’s important is taking care of my son.” 

The Lullaby Project is a national program of Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute.  

Mary’s Place is also one of more than 70 partners in the Seattle Symphony’s Community Connections program, which provides complimentary tickets to nonprofit organizations across the Puget Sound region. 

In your community this November: The Seattle Symphony hosts a food drive in support of Northwest Harvest throughout the month of November. Northwest Harvest believes providing access to healthy food is just part of the solution and strives to remove systemic inequities that create barriers within our food and economic systems. Please bring donations to the Seattle Symphony’s Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince™ concerts (November 3–5) and Tiny Tots: The Brass, Movie Magic (November 10 & 11).  Coming to see a show December 1–8? Join the Seattle Symphony for Eight Days of Giving in support of Mary’s Place! This is our second holiday toy drive in collaboration with Mary’s Place and we are excited to be doing it again. Please bring unwrapped gifts to Seattle Symphony’s Family Concert, The Snowman (December 2), Tiny Tots: Holiday String-Along (December 8 & 9) and Holiday Pops (December 8–10).
