Bass
Jonathan Burnstein joined the Seattle Symphony bass section in 2001. Prior to this, he was a member of the Colorado Symphony. He has participated in the Colorado and Grand Teton music festivals, and worked as a substitute with the Houston Symphony and Philadelphia Orchestra.
Burnstein grew up playing guitar in a musical household, with a focus on rock and jazz. Switching to classical double bass in high school, he began his studies with Brad Opland of the Chicago Symphony during his senior year. After a year at the Juilliard School, he transferred to the Curtis Institute of Music under the tutelage of Roger Scott, then Harold Robinson. Graduate studies followed with Paul Ellison at Rice University. An Aspen Fellowship recipient, Burnstein attended the Aspen, Verbier and Spoleto festivals as a student.
