Roberta Hansen Downey has been a member of the Seattle Symphony since 1982. She grew up in a musical family in Seattle and Tacoma, earning her Bachelor of Music at the University of Southern California studying cello with Gabor Rejto, and continued her cello studies with Cordelia Wikarski-Miedel. She earned her Master of Music at the Eastman School of Music. She was a winner of the Northwest Young Artist Competition and the Don Bushell Concerto Competition, and was a member of the Northwest Chamber Orchestra. An avid chamber music performer, she plays around the Seattle area, most recently with the Bellingham Chamber Music Society. She enjoys gardening and raising chickens.
